Recent Work

The first three pages showcase past paintings already sold as well as completed paintings and prints currently for sale. This page will show recent current work either completed or in progress. Some images will show planning and different stages of the process.

DESS - I walked along the river and enjoyed the way the sunlight separated the view into dark and light areas. I tried to start with this division at the start with washes of colour.

I tried to keep my initial idea as I worked but some subtle changes and decisions influenced the final image. The picture needed a mid toned frame to emphasise the light qualities I was after. Great place with more potential and I plan to return.

some ideas forming

At the top right of this photo there is another image from Dess. This time I am tackling a waterfall which I did try to paint before. It was difficult to compose and didn’t suit the scale and media I chose at the time. I am happy with this quick start and composition, sometimes leaving an idea unresolved on the ‘back burner’ informs a fresh start with previous problems more resolved.

Started with washes as before, trying to group tonal areas.

Finished, framed picture, more detail but sticking to my plan.
